Hair Loss and Wigs: You’re Still You

Hair Loss and Wigs: You’re Still You

Sometimes, kids can lose some or all of their hair. This can happen for different reasons, and it can feel strange or upsetting to see your hair change. You might wonder what other kids will think or wish your hair looked the way it did before.

The good news is that you are still you, with or without hair. Hair does not decide how kind, funny, brave, smart, or special you are.

Some kids who experience hair loss choose to wear a wig. Wigs come in lots of different colors, lengths, and styles. You can choose one that looks like your own hair or try something completely different. You might even have fun picking a new hairstyle!

Wearing a wig is a personal choice. Some days you might want to wear one, and other days you might not. There is no right or wrong way to feel about it.

If you have hair loss, talking to a parent, teacher, doctor, or another trusted adult can help. They can listen to your feelings and help you find options that make you comfortable.

And remember: your hair is only one small part of what makes you special. Your smile, your personality, your talents, and your big heart are what make you, you.
